School History

Foerster Elementary School, established in 1967, is located in the Brays Oaks area of Houston and is part of the Houston Independent School District. Serving students in grades Pre-K through 5, Foerster has long been a cornerstone of its community, providing education to a diverse, urban student population. The school currently enrolls around 540 students, with the majority qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, and it is designated as both a Title I and Equity Focus campus. Known for its commitment to inclusive and high-quality instruction, Foerster offers programs such as Gifted & Talented and serves a student body that is predominantly Hispanic and African American. With a mission centered on equity and empowerment, Foerster continues to support at-risk learners and foster academic growth in a supportive environment.

Foerster Elementary School is named in honor of Cecile Foerster, a highly respected educator and administrator who dedicated more than four decades to teaching and leadership in the Rosenberg and Houston areas. She was also the co-author of the Working with Numbers mathematics workbooks. The school, which opened in 1967, carries her legacy in its name to recognize her longstanding contributions to education in the Houston community.
